Semolina porridge is every Hungarian kid's favorite, it's like the equivalent of oatmeal here! This is my veganised version of the popular recipe, it tasted the same as the original and I definitely suggest to give it a go if you want to try an easy and delicious alternative for your basic oatmeal:)

For 3 servings

Ingredients

For the porridge

  • 3 tbsp semolina

  • 1/2 l plant milk (I used homemade almond milk but choose your favorite because the porridge will taste mostly like the milk you choose)

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • a pinch of salt

Toppings

  • The traditional Hungarian way would be eating it either with Nesquik cacao powder (sweetened) or cinnamon sugar, but feel free to add any toppings you like! I've used cinnamon sugar, apricot jam, and some cacao nibs, but it's also really good with fresh fruit or chocolate and peanut butter ;)

Directions

In a medium-sized pan combine the sugar, semolina, and plant milk. Cook it on medium heat until it thickens up (it takes 5-15 minutes depending on your stove). This is a really basic recipe, so feel free to add any spices if you like (it's great with cinnamon, vanilla extract, or even cacao powder, dark chocolate, or peanut butter stirred in).

Once it's ready, top it with your favorite toppings. The traditional Hungarian toppings are sweetened Nesquik cacao powder or cinnamon sugar, but feel free to get creative!;)
